Statutory Certification

Construction Certificates

Approval to begin building work where development consent has already been granted. We check that your construction documentation complies before a shovel goes in the ground.

When It's Required

You have consent, but you can't build yet.

A Construction Certificate is needed once development consent is in place and before any building work begins. It confirms your construction drawings and specifications comply with the National Construction Code and the conditions of consent. Most projects also need a Principal Certifier appointed before that first day on site — we can do both.

Common Questions

Answers Before You Ask

Can I lodge a CC and a CDC for the same project?

A CC applies where you already hold development consent. A CDC is an alternative path where the project meets the complying development standards and no separate consent is needed. If you are not sure which applies, send us the site details.

The person with the benefit of the development consent — usually the owner — makes the appointment, and it must be in place before work starts.

Depending on the extent of the change, you may need a modified or additional certificate. Tell us early and we will confirm what is needed.
